is/was named after

0Let's say I have a boat named Charlotte which is also the name of my girlfriend. I had the name painted on the hull 5 years ago which is when I decided to name it after my girlfriend. So now, should I say "The boat is named after my girlfriend" or "The boat was named after my girlfriend"? Should the verb "is/was" chosen correspond to the time it was painted?02br

0 I agree with Philip. I'd even keep the present even if Charlotte's no longer your girlfriend. "The boat 01b00is 02b00named after Charlote, who used to be my girlfriend ..." 0-

0 If you ever change the name of the boat, you could say "the boat 01i00was02i00 named after my girlfriend Charlotte, but I changed the name of the boat after Charlotte ran away with the milkman. Now the boat is named after my dog Spot." 0-
