isolated location

Finland does have its own homegrown talent, however, Alvar Aalto, who was born in western Finland, has been called the "the father of Finnish design." Aalt likd simple, clean designs, and he once said, "We should work for simple, good undecorated things." This is actually a very good description of Finland's special design style, which some say developed because of the country's isolated location and long winters.

How should I interpret "isolated location?" Is it "separated situation/place?" Thanks.

I'm sorry to have to bother you again but location and situation are really close in our language. So how do you distinguish them?

Location is purely physical. Situation can involve the psychological and the social, and I don't think that is the thrust of this statement about Finland.
