Isn't the second sentence is the correct one?

I thought I was the only who thinks that he doesn't love you.

I thought I was the only who thought that he didn't love you.

My teacher tells me that the first sentence is the correct one, and the second one is wrong. Isn't it correct to follow the same tense even if it's still apply to the present?

CJ pointed out correctly. I skimmed your sentence over quickly and you had left out the noun, 'the only one". And so I stand corrected. Otherwise, I am still firm on the correctness of your sentence, in light of CJ's explanations.

There is no rule that says you must always follow with the same tense. It's a good guideline though.
