Grammar

Isn't the grammar here a little messed-up?

I'm referring to the sentence below,

"Smashing the guitar of someone singing a cloying love song is way too exciting for me."

That sounds just so grammatically incorrect to me, as it's supposed to be "Smashing the guitar of someone who singing a cloying love song's is way too exciting to me."

Am I right, though?

Top answer

chivalry Am I right, though? The original sounds fine to me. " Either "'s" or "is" not both.

  • chivalry Am I right, though?
  • The original sounds fine to me.
  • " Either "'s" or "is" not both.
  • I suppose you could make an argument for "to" but "for" is much more common and fits better in the context.
  • Your changes aren't wrong but they're not necessary.

The original sounds fine to me.

There are some problems with your suggested replacement:

"Smashing the guitar of someone who is singing a cloying love song's is way too exciting to me."
