Isn’t everything better understood by being demystified?

I’m reading “Indian Society” by SC Dube, and in its Preface there occurs a line:

“History and traditions are sometimes better understood by being demystified”

I’m wondering is that line really have any importance, because everything will be better understood if it get demystified. Or it may be the case that I have comprehended it wrongly.
