Is/does

Hi,

I need some advice on how to explain when to use "is" or "does" in a question for a community based ESL program. For example, Is/Does the so-and-so have a such-and-such? anyone know the rule?

Hi Yusef and welcome to EnglishForward. You use does to make question in present simple tense when your subject is third person singular. In present simple, if you don't have any auxilary verbs you have to use do and does.

Thanks hrsanei, but my Q was more about is vs. does then about does alone, as in my example.
