ElanguestForce is the subject of the sentenceActually, force is the head of the NP the force of the blows, which is the subject. The verb agrees with the head because it’s the FORCE of the blows that is unknown, not the blows themselves.
ElanguestI'm not sure that attraction is ever used other than theoretically in English grammar.I guess it must be, because quite a few native speakers hace tole ne they would use "are" in the above example.
