Hello everybody,
I would very much appreciate your help with the following sentence.
....... if any of the 'Maybe' boxes is/are checked.
I automatically thought that 'are' is correct, but now I am not so sure.

It should be "is"!

I think both are correct. You can say either "Is any box checked?", or "Are any boxes checked?".
