Is "works" of?

His nine-year-old son seems to have taken an interest in culinary works.

Said his father, "He's tried cooking simple things like eggs at home and he's good at it."

Is "works" in the first sentence correctly used?

Thanks.

I think activities can replace 'works', but I don't know if it fits the place well. Here, I think cooking sounds fine.

'work' is rarely used in the plural, but perhaps this is a fixed phrase. I know that we can talk about 'construction works' and similar.

"culinary works" sounds strange to me. It sounds like special dishes made for display like art or sculpture, or something like that.
