Is wishing Sweet Dreams restricted to lovers?

I have a cousin she ends all her chats, with anyone, with a 'Sweet Dreams". Of course when it is in the evening. I argued with her saying it is not a good thing. But I could not find anything to prove it is improper. Can any of you experts help?

It is a little silly when directed to anyone other than a child or one's lover. It is overly affectionate otherwise, and it may cause embarrassment to the recipient.
