Is Whom correct in this kind of sentence?

Hi,

Could you please tell me if I can use "whom" in this sentence?

The guard nodded when the journalist told him whom she was there to see.

Top answer

The guard nodded when the journalist told him whom she was there to see. You certainly may, but be aware that it is considered very (even hyper-) formal nowadays.
