is -weekend- the right word?

Hello

p-1 What does "weekend" mean to english speaking people?
Saturday and Sunday?
p-2 afaik, Sunday is a week's first day, not its last day?
If so, isn't it a little "illogical" to use weekend where weekstart would propably sound better? )-

Weekend refers to the time off from normal office hours, starting from Friday evening and ending Sunday night. It's true that Sunday is the first day of the week, but maybe its' because Friday and Saturday are on the weekend and Sunday is still a day off that they are regarded as one unit.

Many calendars show it that way, though I have also seen calendars that put Monday first.

Hi

Although technically Sunday is the first day of the week, it is considered the weekend by the majority of English speakers as it is a day off work. However, many, many, many and then some....... words are "illogical", so don't bend yourself out of shape over them!
