Is vs. was with 'another'

A. I wasn't able to attend school yesterday because I was sick. Another thing is I had to take care of my little sister because she was sick as well.

C. One of my contributions to her party last month was her birthday cake. I ordered it from Paul's Cafe. Another contribution is decorating her house with balloons and flowers.

1. I was wondering which is the correct linking verb when using the word "Another" to introduce something as an addition to what has already been mentioned. Please advise which is correct in each pair above.
2. If either 'is' or 'was' is possible, what is the difference between them in each pair above?
3. Which would a native speaker more likely use in each pair?

I would use "is" or perhaps "was" in the first set but only "was" in the other two. "another thing is" is more like a fixed expression and that's why I would strongly prefer it to the "was" version from B.
