"is usually going" vs "usually goes"

Why it is correct to say: "Robert is usually going away two or three times a year."

But it is NOT correct to say: "Robert usually goes away two or three times a year."

Actually, in general, the first would be considered to be incorrect, while the second is the correct tense.
