Is 'trade' productive in the phrase?

Hello everybody,

I came up with this sentence seeking to convey the idea that your first impression of someone/something will stay with you unaltered throughout the rest of your life. So here's it basically:

"You can't trade your first impression of someone".

Now please, native speakers, I'm not sure if it's possible to use the word 'trade' in the connotation, I just couldn't think of a better one and Google failed to help, so would you tell if that one fits in here or should I want to use 'change'. Thank you very much!
