Is 'to' required here?

Hi,


  1. Did you ever happen to see a herb tea to change color when you add some lemon?


    Is the 'to' before 'change' necessary here?

When you use a verb like see, hear, watch, listen to, etc, you use the main form of the verb.

I watched him make the repair..
I saw it change color.
Did you hear Mark come in?
I could listen to her sing for hours.

One follow-up question then....
Wouldn't it be "more grammatical" to use the ing-form (not infinitive) here?

"... a herb tea changing its color...

The "non-ing" form (change) means you saw the whole thing from start to finish.
The "ing" form (changing) means you saw it at one point while it was in progress.

There are a lot of threads about this here, many using "cross the street" or "crossing the street" as examples.
