Is thousand of miles acting as adverb ?

Hello,

Chemical insecticides have often spread thousands of miles from where they were originally used.

In above sentence, Is thousand of miles acting as adverb ? because Spread is an intransitive verb, it can't take direct verb.

Thanks

Chemical insecticides have often spread thousands of miles from where they were originally used . I'm inclined to say that the underlined NP as direct object of "spread", and the PP "from where they were originally used" as a complement within that NP.
