Is this worded in the best way?

Before any decisions could be made, many of the priests revealed themselves to be the Emperor’s Wolves and attacked Tol and the warlords with poisoned daggers. Tol was nearly killed by Tathman, but was saved by Egrin, which was an action that cost the elder warrior his life. After seeing the man who had been like a second father to him slain, an enraged Tol engaged Tathman in single combat. While Tol battled and slew Tathman, the other assassins were subdued, but not before several warlords, including Zanpolo and Trudo of the Oaken Shield Horde, were killed. Tol ordered that the surviving Wolves be immediately executed and that their heads be placed inside one of the delegation’s wagons
