Is this very natural?
"I can't wait to see him. It's been way too long. How is he, by the way?"
"Well, he's been a little sad."
"Why's that?"
"A girl he's having a crush on has started dating this guy."
Hi, all. Is this very natural?
Can "he's been a little sad" stand alone or should I add eg. "...lately" to it?

It would be common to add "lately" or similar word, but it's not mandatory. The rest is all OK except:
"A girl he's having he has a crush on has started dating this guy."
