Is this the right way to use tenet in a sentence

I ought to keep reminding myself of my own tenet!

Hi, The sentence is fine. ( But if you have to keep reminding yourself, it doesn't really sound like a tenet. ) You obviously need a context in which the listener knows or learns what your tenet is.

Others knowledge of what a word does or does not mean has absolutely NOTHING to do with it be properly used.
