Is this the correct usage of the word adopt?

My friend argues that he has used the word 'adopt' instead of 'adapt' correctly in this sentence. If we were to ignore other mistakes in this sentence, is the usage of the word 'adopt' correct?

"If you are not getting adopted to anything in this world means what to do..."

Thanks

First of all, that's not a sentence, and secondly, it wouldn't make sense no matter how you finished it. Perhaps you could rephrase so I can tell what you mean. In any case, "adopted" isn' t used correctly.

  • "Adopt" means to take as one's own, and the only use of "adopt to" is for the adoption of children into their adoptive families.

In any case, "adopted" isn' t used correctly. "Adopt" means to take as one's own, and the only use of "adopt to" is for the adoption of children into their adoptive families. The preferable term is "adopted into."
