Is this the correct usage for the word "apply"

Here is a sentence from my cover letter for an archival assistant position at my university.

I am interested in the Archival Assistant job at the University of Chicago Library, which was posted by Career Services. This would be an exciting opportunity to learn about the university's rich history by applying my customer service and technical skills.

Does it make sense to writing "apply my skills?"
