Is this small passage properly worded?

FYI- Kleef and Arietta are part of the group and are companions. While the group was speaking with Gingrid, Yder and his few remaining warriors attacked them, but following a vicious fight, the prince was killed by Kleef and the other shades were also slain. Afterward, the companions tried to devise a way to get past the magical entities in Sadrach’s castle that had been created by the Spellplague and were preventing the group from reaching Grumbar’s temple. During that time, the comrades realized that over their course of their adventurous journey, Arietta had truly become a Chosen of Siamorphe. Arietta used her newfound powers to command the entities to not harm the group and allow them to make their way to the temple.

cboutin3 entities to not harm the group An archaic rule says not to split (as opposed to to not split ) an infinitive. I sometimes stick by it, depending on my audience and how it flows. I find that with a negative it sounds better not to split.
