Is this small passage all worded in the best way?

Kharas was able to grievously wound Fistandantilus before he and his comrades were forced to withdraw. However, this was a meaningless victory since Denubis healed Fistandantilus’s injuries. The army of Fistandantilus continued their march toward Zhaman, but the archmage’s eagerness to reach the fortress led to him moving the bulk of his forces too far ahead of their supply lines.
