Many years later, Aesperus returned as a powerful lich who haunted a place under the Highfells known as the Vault of the Dead and commanded the undead of eastern Thar as his slaves. Aesperus became known as "the King in Copper" because of the enchanted copper bands that he wore on his body. Aesperus was a distant ancestor of the Hulmaster clan of Hulburg, and eventually established a pact with them under which he prevented the undead from rising within their domain.
