Is this sentence worded correctly?

FYI- Aesperus is the dark king. The war against Aesperus lasted for years, but Terlannis and her forces slowly pushed the dark king and his loyalists to the eastern frontiers of the realm, where they held out in a strong fortress called the Wailing Tower.
