Is this sentence using ‘had been found sitting’ acceptable?

Is this sentence using ‘had been found sitting’ acceptable?

Cathy said her son had been found sitting in a street corner somewhere in Hanoi, so she took him home.

It was not Cathy but someone else who had found her son. Should I rewrite the sentence instead as follows?

Cathy said someone else had found her son sitting in a street corner somewhere in Hanoi, so she took him home.

Both versions are fine, except that I would change " in a street corner" to " on a street corner" and remove the redundant "else" in the second.
