Is this sentence structure correct?

It sounds a bit off.

"Use vinger the same way you would a detergent."
Drink water the same way you would a

Googling "the same way you would a" returns plenty.
I think I've seen a figure of speech where the verb is deleted in a similar fashion, but I'm not sure.
