Is this sentence natural?

a basketball player who never plays plays a game because the others are injured. The opposing team is very weak. He plays so well that people think he might become a starter the rest of the season.

someone says:

This game isn’t important enough for him to be able to become a starter based off the way he played tonight regardless of how well he played.

Is the above sentence natural?

thanks
