Is this sentence grammatically correct?

Jonathan Friedman balanced spoon on his face painstakingly and broke the world record.

I had to look that up. He didn't balance spoons, even though that's what the Evening Standard wrote. He stuck them to his face with saliva. Ignoring that for the sake of grammar, it has to be "spoons": "Jonathan Friedman balanced spoons on his face painstakingly and broke the world record."
