Is this sentence grammatically appropriate?

"What I wish for them is to be released from jail."

Is it? Can I rephrase this in a different way?

It's not a very good sentence, and it's not very clear who is to be released from jail: the speaker or "them". Assuming the latter, "What I wish for them is that they (should) be released from jail" is one way to say it in a similar style. Obviously there are simpler ways to say broadly the same thing, such as "I hope (that) they are released from jail".
