Is this sentence correct or perhaps acceptable?

Hi. Please help. Is this correct (or perhaps acceptable/appropriate) as a teacher's comment for a writing assignment? Please look at the underlined part.

They both work, but the full stop offers more encouragement to the student.

"It's good, BUT" is always discouraging.

The student may not always pick up on the difference,
but the full stop tends to keep the "but" from distracting from the "Good."

You could also consider putting the "But" sentence on the next line.
