Is this sentence correct?

"Dispute is essential for the truth and therefore disagreement"

I want to say that the truth requires dispute and since dispute requires disagreement, the truth requires disagreement.

Would this be better:

"Dispute is essential for the truth and so is disagreement"

Yes, #2 is better than #1. How about this? Truth requires dispute and dispute requires disagreement.

My suggestion, though perhaps too poetic:

Dispute is essential for truth, and thus its herald as well — disagreement.
