Is this sentence correct?

Hi!

Could you please tell me if the below sentence is correct? (I believe something is wrong.)

The author wants to emphasize that he had a good time.

"Not only did I have a bad time, but from every place I have been I experienced their well-known hospitality."

I would rewrite it as follows:

"Not only did I have a good time, but wherever I went I experienced their well-known hospitality."

Thanks in advance!
