Is this sentence correct?

This is about a boxing match and betting odds

He was a favorite at the beginning of the fight but the odds evened out as the fight was progressing.

Almost - but he was THE favourite, not A favourite as there could only be one favourite in a two-man contest. Also you should use 'progressed' in the simple past tense rather than 'was progressing'.
