Is this sentence correct, "Hold fast to/onto the rope of justice come what may/ no matter what may"?

I say "onto". To me it sounds like you're holding tighter. I don't think I say the other one.

Yes, that's exactly how I'd say it, as shown. (No "to". That's already in the word "onto".)

Note: Some people write "hold on to the boat". Two words. on. to.
