Is this sentence correct?

Hi! everyone.
Could you tell me whether the sentence below is correct?
The qualities their ancestors had, are now dwindling down successively in their later generations.(I want to say the genrations following the ancestorshas less of those qualities than their ancestors and also want to imply that the qualities are decreasing in the later generations gradually.
Is the sentence(Bold) above conveying this?
