Is this sentence correct?

I felt proud that day: I felt like a leader.

Please help me grammatically correct this sentence, it is the last sentence of my narrative essay.

These are two perfectly good sentences. They can be connected by a period (.), a conjunction (and, for...) or a semicolon (;).
You can also combine them into a single sentence, like so:

I felt very proud that day — like a leader.
