Is this sentence correct?

The preacher told us that we would be forgiven if we repented FROM our sins.

If it's wrong, please explain why.

I think repent should be followed by "of", not by "from".

I think both are possible, depending on the contexts and the author of the scripture.

I think it's just something he (Tony) stuck at the beginning of Chapter 3 as a teaser.
I don't find the quote in King James.

This is just my opinion. If you judge the grammaticality of the scriptures and quotes in the Bible by the modern grammar standard, you may be right. That's why I said "depending on the author...

But that quote is not of the scriptures. It's dated September 22, 2008 - Tony.
He's probably just a nice guy who doesn't know much grammar.
