Seems like we were eating this whole afternoon. And

Mister MicawberBoth need a subject.

Hi MM,

Would 'it' be the subject?

It seems like we were eating the whole afternoon.

It seems like we've been eating the whole afternoon. <--- Could present perfect be used here even though whole afternoon is considered a specific time?

Yes, that's right

It seems... now
It seemed...in the past
It has seemed...during the afternoon

It seems like we've been eating since the afternoon. Present perfect

It seemed like we had been eating since the afternoon. Past perfect

What's the difference between these two sentences?

The first sentence means that we're still eating.

The second means that we've stopped eating but we ate the whole time during the afternoon.
