Is this sentence correct ?

Hi,

I put in the sentence below to describe how and what direction people were sitting at a restaurant,

I would like to get this corrected if there is any mistake, and other suggestions of the same meaning will be appreciated.

- I was taking a seat in the corner, and I found a man sitting in the opposite with his back facing me and a lady sitting facing me.

I don't understand how this is even possible -- are the man and woman sitting next to each other, but facing in opposite directions?
