Is this sentence correct?

I found this sentence on the PETA website, and I'm not sure that it's correct.

"Unfortunately, years of watching her friends and family being hooked through the mouth and dragged into a harsh, alien world above have driven her mad with grief."

I think that it should be "has" and not "have." Is this sentence correct the way that it is?

Top answer

The subject of "have" is "years", so it's correct: "years ... have"; "a/the year ... has".

  • The subject of "have" is "years", so it's correct: "years ...
  • have"; "a/the year ...
  • has".
