I assume that the correct sentence should be as, "To what extent did the public figures represented in the Sijo tradition in some literal sense compose?

In the last sentence that you typed, "did" sounds good, but the word "compose" needs to be past tense with a "d." on it to make it sound correct.

But, in the case of "did compose", after "did", the root form, "compose" is not used?
