Is this sentence correct?

This is an excerpt from my homework. Please let me know if it is correct.

On Monday morning, she walked into my office, and said for five months she has wanted a raise.

You should delete the comma after "office."

It's optional, but I think preferable, to insert "that" after "said."

My version:
On Monday morning, she walked into my office and said she had wanted a raise for five months.

Unless she still hasn't gotten the raise and not too much time has passed since Monday morning. Then I would stick with "has".

"On Monday morning" means "today" is not Monday.
