Is this sentence completely clear and correct?

Is this sentence completely clear and correct? And should i make the comma between "jobs" and "in" a semicolon? Soon after, Faros was assigned to the most dreaded of jobs, in an area of intense heat known as the pit, he had to seize ore baskets and send them down to be smelted.
