Is this sentence clear, particularly the end?

FYI- Vinas is the rebel and Erghas is the imperial officer. Vinas accepted, and in the duel that ensued, Erghas managed to defeat the rebel commander through trickery orchestrated by two of Emann’s servants, but this was not known to the imperial officer

Thanks, is this revision clearer and better? Vinas accepted, and in the duel that ensued, Erghas managed to defeat the rebel commander, but through trickery orchestrated by two of Emann’s servants. Erghas had not known about the deceit, but when he then learned about it, he swore to join the rebellion and support Vinas’s army.
