Is this sentence acceptable in an informal circumstance?

"My parents created a creature with the power of resisting a hot girl, but fails in resisting a stick of ice-cream".
I'm having a debate with my wife. she argues that using "fails" is incorrect. But I think it's acceptable, especially in an informal case
