Is this sentance writen correctly?

I'm horrible at grammer especially when it comes to semicolons. Is the following sentance writen correctly? Thanks!

By definition, the word love is an emotion; not just an emotion, but what is arguably the strongest protagonist, or antagonist depending on your level of negativity; to the story that emotion plays out in our daily lives.

Almost. By definition, the word love is an emotion ; it is not just an emotion, but what is arguably the strongest protagonist or antagonist ( depending on your level of negativity ) in the story that emotion plays out in our daily lives. I realize that I have changed the balance somewhat between 'protagonist' and 'antagonist' in your sentence, but I think that the above is the best that can be done punctuation-wise while keeping to a single sentence.
