Is this punctuation fine?

"Where finding a cure had once been like seeking a solution to one of my engineering problems, I now see that there is so much more to medicine, and seeking that knowledge has, and will continue to, fulfill me in a way engineering never could. "

I know the sentence is bit long, but I like the "Where...." structure and it fits better with what came before it. My question is do you think the punctuation is OK?

Thank you so much! Your rewrite is great. Do you mind explaining what's the difference between where and whereas in this case? Thank you!

'Whereas' here suggests a stronger contrast.
It also adds more style to your sentence, which I assume you want..
