Is this proper english?

Is "have got" proper, as in, "I've got your answer"? "I have your answer" sounds correct to me.

Please, this has driven me crazy for years.

Both are grammatical sentences. They are good examples which will demonstrate why choice of words can alter the intended meaning.

Scenario: You asked me a question in email which I replied. Upon receiving my reply, you acknowledged right away by another email saying "I've got your answers",

Totally agree with Clive.

It's that situation where the word isn't necessary but, as it makes the sentence flow better orally, it is often used in writing too. Again, I wouldn't use it when writing formally.
